The museum listed as a Grade I Heritage Building was originally called as Prince of Wales Museum of Western India. This museum which is built in Western Indian and Indo-Saracenic style was awarded the prestigious '2010 UNESCO Asia – Pacific Heritage Award' for Cultural Heritage Conservation.
The foundation to this museum was laid in 1905 and George Wittet was assigned to design this monument. Though the building was ready by 1915, it was initially used as a Children’s welfare center and as a military hospital during the First World War. This museum is categorized into 3 sections; art, archaeology and natural history and is the proud owner of a massive 60,000 plus artifacts.
