About Government Museum

Previously called as Egmore Museum, it is the second oldest museum (established in 1851) after the Indian Museum at Kolkata (established in 1814). This museum enjoys the privilege of having exquisite collection of archaeological and numismatic exhibits. It is also the proud owner of largest collections belonging to the mighty Roman Empire outside Europe. The buildings here are over 100 years old with the colossal museum being the most impressive one.
