The church is built in 1680 by Bishop Thomas de Castro, a Theatine priest of Salcette in Goa, to strengthen the Christian community in the region. The altar here has French paintings of St. Monica and St. Augustine. After Bishop Thomas de Castro's death, he was buried in Milagres Cemetery. Entry

St.philos church mysore
The church is built in the year 1956 in honor of martyred Latin Catholic Saint Philomena who is believed to have been murdered by a Roman King Diocletian at the age of fourteen. On the 23rd of April 1829, the  governor of Madras laid foundation to this church. The day was specifically chosen to pay tribute to King George as a birthday gift. In 1891, Rev. M. Dorai was appointed as a Chaplain by the British and he was the first Indian to hold that post ever in the history. The gigantic main beams along with rest of the timbers utilized in the building of the church were acquired from a palace in Srirangapatna, one of the palaces of Tipu Sultan.
